Sermon notes from April 19, 2020 "The urgency of new testament baptism"

When some people are ready to be baptized they think it can wait until later

Acts 2:37, 40-41 "Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, 'Brothers, what shall we do?'... And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, 'Save yourselves from this crooked generation.' So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls." (ESV)

In the first gospel sermon, Jesus had been crucified, the apostles didn't say wait till you get back to your own country; about 3,000 people were baptized that day.

There was a since of urgency

Acts 16:24-25, 33 "Having received this order, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them... And took them the same hour of the night and washed their wounds; and he was baptized at once, he and all his family." (ESV)

Acts 22:16 "And now why do you wait? rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name." (ESV)

Why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized to wash away your sins.
